Alice Howard Koesterich
Alice Howard Koesterich wrote the story of Opus and the Red Chair in memory of her dog Opus, who died of cancer in May 2006 at five years of age. In Boston he was diagnosed with a soft tissue sarcoma at the age of three and a half, received radiation and chemotherapy and lived another twenty months. He was a beloved dog in New York City, Boston and San Francisco. He never met a person, leather glove, or pizza that he didn’t like. He was known for his ability to find mischief, even when he was sick.
Alice lives in San Francisco with her husband Russ, son Palmer and dog Milo. She is the founder of Foggy Dog Books.
Sara Kahn
Sara is an artist and illustrator currently living in San Francisco with her husband and three cats.
Her fascination by visual delights started from an early age. She is mesmerized by the color of light going through a prism or the way colors run together when one puts them on the paper; a beautiful brocade pattern; a marvelous dream; the gestures of a kitten. She paints in an attempt to take visual notes of what she finds intriguing.
Her illustrations using a combination of techniques have appeared in Cricket and Cicada Magazines. She has won many prizes and honors for her artworks, the most recent one being the SCBWI Magazine Merit award for illustration 2003.
